“ART IS A WINDOW TO A SOUL, A CULTURE, A TIME... AN HONEST YET FREEING PEEK AT A SHARED VULNERABILITY.”

KAVITA

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Hey there,

so a little about me. I started my art journey at the ripe old age of five when I created my first masterpiece of a decorated Indian desert elephant in coloured pencils.

Life took many turns and something within never felt quite right and a near recent discovery of the Procreate app reignited a forgotten passion for art and elephants.

As they say, it’s never too late to stretch towards the sun and bloom. I’ve come full circle back to my first love and thereby finding peace through creative expression.

The digital age has offered me a second chance at a career not thought possible. I believe we are all inherently artistic and I’m finally giving into the process. Grateful.

With love,

Kavita

ARTIST BIO

Kavita Daswani is a new media artist born and raised in Hong Kong. She states, “My art is a celebration of emotions where the audience is taken on a visual journey through the use of deep hues and paint like strokes.”

Her love of art began early and has always held a special place in her heart. Creative pursuits in painting, photography and pottery have all helped shape Kavita’s distinctive personal style.

Inspired by traditional watercolour, her pieces are digitally created with florals and foliage depicted in an abstract manner whilst other structural elements such as a bridge or a pagoda are more defined. Paying homage to her Indian heritage, Kavita makes use of a vivid colour palette in her nature inspired landscapes.

Her Nostalgia and Wistful collections represent a longing to turn back time and capture an emotion of contentedness.

Kavita has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Counseling.

She is now fully immersed in her art and building new collections to show to the public.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I create semi-abstract art with a painterly feel. Although I work digitally, I consciously make pieces that have a traditional watercolour effect, a medium I am most at home with. To achieve a similar result with the apple pencil, I tilt, vary the pressure, tap and sometimes glide my fingers across the screen. Much like a memory each stroke seems to inhabit a different space in time.

My work is an interplay between colours, shapes and textures, where colour takes centre stage. I use deep tones in my landscapes to heighten the senses where I reflect on the relationship between colour and emotion.

Nature is my muse and I am often inspired after midnight when the bustling city of Hong Kong is asleep. The couch is my studio and the solitude my inspiration. The calm I feel when creating is my motivation. Embark on a journey with me where richly hued pieces evoke a dance of emotions.
